About Us
Packaging

At Kettle Foods, we’re happy that people love our products as much as we do. But that’s just part of our mission. We want to make great tasting, all-natural snacks and help the planet in the process. That’s why we’ve taken another step towards sustainability by working to improve our packaging. After much research and consideration, we have decided to eliminate the paper layer of our chip bags and transition to an all-poly material.

Our packaging has always been made up of several layers for protection from heat, light and air. Unfortunately, it has never been recyclable. But by making this change, we’ve reduced the material of the bag by 20%, saving over 22,000 trees annually and preventing over 450,000 pounds of packaging from going into landfills each year. So far, all of our 15 oz. and smaller bags are making the change to the new all-poly packaging. We are working on a material that will allow us to switch over our club-sized bags, too, but have not yet found this.

We have very high standards for our packaging, including shipping our products in a way that maintains the freshness and quality of the chips you’ve come to know and love. It took a long time to find materials that met our need to reduce our ecological footprint while remaining sturdy enough to protect our product. We’d love to one day make our packaging even more sustainable, like we’ve done in other parts of our business. Currently, there are just no packaging materials on the market that meet our high standards for protecting the quality and freshness of our chips. However, we are continually on the lookout for recyclable, compostable or biodegradable materials that can be incorporated into our bags. As technological advances allow for more sustainable packaging choices that work for us, we hope to be on the leading edge of those exciting trends.
